  VMOs fund research

The AMAQ Foundation was presented with a donation of $50,000 from Queensland’s Visiting Medical Officers (VMO) Committee at a special function at AMA Queensland on 7 December.

AMAQ Foundation Executive Director Ms Jane Schmitt attended the function on behalf of the Foundation Board and received a cheque for the donation from the Honorable Member for Everton and Parliamentary Secretary for Healthy Living Mr Murray Watt and VMO Committee Chair Dr Ross Cartmill.

The donation will help fund a number of the Foundation’s vital projects, including scholarships for medical students at James Cook University; support for medical centres in Charleville and Thargomindah; equipment for the Royal Children’s Hospital; and projects in Augathella, Nanango, Bundaberg and Cambodia.

In accepting the cheque Ms Schmitt acknowledged the VMO Committee’s dedicated support of the Foundation since its establishment in 2000 and said this made the VMOs and the Committee the largest benefactor of all the Foundation’s supporters.

At the function, the VMO committee also presented donations to the Queensland Institute for Medical Research, the Queensland Institute of Dermatology and the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research.
